A Madagascar-first founder lab

AI just changed the economics of building companies in emerging markets.

Reniala Lab pairs AI-native founders in Madagascar with diaspora operators who have built abroad — turning local insight into viable companies.

The Idea

Execution is cheap now. Judgment isn't.

01

AI collapses the cost of execution

A small team in Antananarivo can now reach capability that used to require money and proximity. What took a funded startup a year takes an AI-native founder a month.

02

But AI doesn't provide judgment

Networks, market access, trust, operating discipline — the unscalable layer is still missing. No model can open a door or vouch for a founder.

03

Reniala Lab supplies that layer

We pair AI-native founders with a curated bench of senior operators — Malagasy diaspora and beyond — who have built companies where the founders want to go.

The Pilot — Tsiry

One cohort to prove the model. One quarter, end to end.

Tsiry is a contained, measurable pilot — not a new institution. 3–5 founders, 8–10 weeks, weekly operator sessions, AI-native company design, customer discovery, and a public demo day.

1

Select

3–5 founders with deep local insight and the will to build AI-native.

2

Build

Weekly operator sessions, AI-native workflows, CTO-in-residence.

3

Validate

~30 customer interviews, prototypes, revenue hypotheses.

4

Show

Public demo day, plus a post-pilot report with findings.

What the pilot produces

  • 3–5 validated problem statements and prototypes
  • Customer discovery evidence (~30 interviews)
  • Go-to-market paths and 90-day execution plans
  • A public demo day and post-pilot report

Sponsors & Partners

Back the first cohort

Sponsor a cohort or a founder seat — or contribute credits, tools, and introductions. Named across demo day, communications, and the post-pilot report. Results in one quarter, not promises.

Operators & Mentors

Lend your judgment

2–4 hours a month for one cohort. Mentor a founder, run a session in your specialty, open one door. Hours of judgment, not a donation — with first look at the deal flow.

The Name

reniala — Malagasy for the baobab.

Reniala means "mother of the forest." The world calls the baobab the upside-down tree — its branches look like roots thrown at the sky. But it only looks upside down. The baobab is built precisely for where it grows: storing water through the dry season, outlasting everything around it for a thousand years.

That's the thesis. Companies built in Madagascar don't need to look like companies built in San Francisco. They need to be built for where they grow.
